Here are simple ways to make your holiday outstanding!
1. Add an element of fun in everything you do
Be it in your planning, packing, organizing, executing or
traveling, make sure you bring in a fun element. There is no
point in getting all keyed up about having fun and letting your
hair down, right?
2. Involve everyone
This is an extension of point 1. If you are going to holiday
with your family, friends or as a group, surely you need to ask
them what their idea of a great holiday is, right? All the more
reason for you to do it if you are going with children or senior
citizens – their idea of fun may not be the same as yours!
3. Don’t be rigid about your plans
This sounds like an anti-thesis of the old advice – Be planned!
The point is, both are true. Plan things correctly, but at the
same time, be flexible about what you have already planned. Be
prepared to change things around, introduce new elements of fun
and to welcome variety into your holiday. This will make the
most ordinary holiday feel great!
4. Don’t have a packed schedule
Just because you have a few days off doesn’t mean that you
should cram them with activities. The worst thing that can
happen is to have a holiday where you are forever on the run,
from one place to another and from one activity to the next.
Keep things well spaced out and have lots of leisure time, so
you can enjoy your holiday.
5. Learn to enjoy the local flavour
You probably like continental breakfast, love cycling and prefer
wearing only semi-formals in the evening. But if you find new
things, new dishes, new experiences, do make it a point to try
them out. It could be a once in a lifetime attempt – and who
knows, you may enjoy it more than anything else in the vacation!
6. Make things extra special
Spice up your holiday with things that can make it extra special
for you and for others. Throw surprise parties, plan surprise
gifts for others, have a special dinner organised, arrange for a
special treasure hunt if you are in a group, or go for a special
outing if you are with your spouse/companion.
7. Research before recreation
Before you have fun, dig in as deep as you can about your travel
plans, your place of visit, adventure and sporting activities,
places to see, things to do, specialties of the place, etc.
Being well-informed will make it easy to plan things and you
will spend less time trying to figure out what to do next!
Happy holidaying!
