You could call it the jewel in the crown of God’s own country.
You could call it the union of three mountain streams -
Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala – that gave it its name
Munnar (meaning the confluence of three rivers). Or you could be
at a complete loss for words as you stare at the spectacular
view ahead of you, one that holds the dreamy hills, acres of tea
estates, untouched valleys, exotic flowers and plants, thickset
woods, fresh, clean air and above all, total peace of mind.
Journey to Idukki district in the eastern part of Kerala, along
the Western Ghats, to a height of around 7000 feet above sea
level and you reach the place that was once the most
sought-after summer destination of the British Raj and today,
continues to remain so for thousands of people from across the
country. As you climb even higher, you can reach Anamudi, the
highest peak in South India (at over 8800 feet above sea level)
that offers the perfect trekking opportunity for outdoor
enthusiasts.
One has reason to believe that nature has been partial to
Munnar, for besides its breathtaking views and its
picture-perfect scenery, it also boasts of the special
neelakurinji flower that blossoms just once in twelve years and
turns the whole hillside area into a carpet of blue.
Add to these riches the excitement of outdoor sports, the
comforts of a tourist destination and the quaintness of a little
town atop the hills and you’ll know what Munnar is considered by
many as a perfect holiday destination.

Weather information
Munnar has excellent weather conditions for those who wish to
get away from the searing heat and the sapping humidity of most
metros and towns in the South. The temperature hovers between

area into a green paradise, do bring along rain gear in addition
to your normal clothes.
In all, Munnar is good enough to visit for at least 10 months of
the year – except the monsoon season. Long walks, adventurous
sports, idyllic trysts or pleasant family outings – you can be
